A medida que MS Dhoni y Ashwin se acercan al ocaso de sus carreras, es posible que se estén preparando para sus próximos pasos como entrenadores y formadores del CSK.
Chennai Super Kings have always been one side in the Indian Premier League who have believed in making a smooth transition. The five-time champions may have found their next generation coaches in the form of MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin. Both veterans, who have a strong connection with the team, are all but sure to go on and become a part of the team’s support staff in the future.
Will Ashwin and MS Dhoni become CSK coaches in future?
While MS Dhoni has been associated with the side since the inception of IPL, Ravichandran Ashwin found his way back into the side in IPL 2025 auction after spending nearly a decade in other teams. There is no doubt that the veteran duo are at the twilight of the career as players and might have just a few seasons, if not just one, left under their belt. Yet, the end of their career as a player can potentially mark the start of their next big step as coaches or a part of the support staff.
Latest news
Ashwin will enjoy a homecoming in IPL 2025 as he returns to the team where it all began for him in 2010. The Tamil Nadu spinner is already a part of the CSK Academy as he took charge as the head of the team’s High Performance Centre earlier in June. CSK head into IPL 2025 with Eric Simmons as the bowling consultant, a position that was previously held by stalwart Dwayne Bravo before he moved to KKR. There will be no surprises if Ashwin goes on to become the team’s bowling coach or mentor after IPL 2025, a fine route that the team can explore to put the spinner’s brilliance to work in the best way possible. Besides, Ashwin has the experience of guiding youngsters and working together with them to improve their game as he has so often done for Team India and the other franchises where he has played at.
As for MS Dhoni, his transition from a captain to a player already began in 2024 when he handed over the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad. While there were multiple speculations about Thala’s future in the IPL, the former CSK captain put those rumours to rest by confirming at the last-minute that he would continue to play for CSK, well at least for one more season. While the team may be more than willing to make MSD their next head coach, it is highly unlikely that he will accept the role. What he could probably take up is the role of a mentor where he could continue to provide valuable assistance to the team, from the dug out this time instead of from behind the wickets.
Should Ashwin and Dhoni agree to be a part of CSK’s support staff in the future, then one can safely say that the franchise will be in the best of the hands, with two geniuses of the game shepherding and guiding the next generation in the best way that they could have asked for. And for CSK fans, it would be the most delightful news as Thala and Chennai’s own spin wizard continue their association with the side.
