Former Australia cricketer-turned-commentator Matthew Hayden was left flabbergasted after a DRS blunder saved Mitchell Marsh on Day 2 of IND vs AUS 2nd Test. In what was yet another controversial decision in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Mitchell Marsh was given not out after the umpire found “no conclusive evidence” despite Ashwin managing to trap the batter for an LBW and replays showing that it was indeed out and not bat first and then pad.

Shortly after the decision regarding Marsh was made, a surprised Matthew Hayden asked on commentary that how better images were available only after a decision was made. A similar incident had occurred in the 1st Test in Perth when KL Rahul was also adjudged out by the third umpire despite the replays showing that the ball never hit the bat but instead the spike on snikco was due to the bat brushing the pad instead.
“How do we get better images after the decision is made?,” Matthew Hayden asked while on commentary.

Ashwin knew straight away that the had gotten in man after bowling a delivery that saw Marsh being trapped right in front of the wickets. The Indian spinner decided to appeal as the on-field umpire refused to raise his finger.
Despite multiple replays showing an extremely close call, the official claimed there was “no conclusive evidence” to overturn the on-field not-out decision. The Hawk-Eye tracking system showed two reds, indicating the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps.
What happened to KL Rahul in Perth?
In the 1st Test in Perth, KL Rahul was well set when he went on to play a forward defensive shot against Mitchell Starc. The ball breezed past the blade of the bat. But the bat had hit KL’s pad and had not made any contact with the willow. DRS showed “no conclusive evidence” as just 2 incomplete frames were provided by the broadcaster to the third umpire. The Snicko however showed a spike, obvious from the bat hitting the pads. Without any proof, the decision couldn’t be turned back as KL Rahul had to walk back to the pavilion.
