Rajasthan Royals (RR) lo hizo muy bien al encontrar los mejores jugadores de bolos en la subasta IPL 2025, pero no logró conseguir ningún gran bateador excepto Nitish Rana.
Having already retained five capped and one uncapped player, Rajasthan Royals entered the IPL 2025 auction slightly on the backfoot in terms of salary purse. Yet, the one-time champions fared pretty well in filling the gaps they needed to in the squad. Having retained a core comprising of batters and one bowler, RR were tasked with finding reputed all-rounders and bowlers. Well, they seem to have struck a balance – not the best that one would expect – but decent enough to complete a formidable squad.

RR hits in IPL 2025 auction
RR aced it when it came to finding perfect replacements for the bowlers they released ahead of IPL 2025 auction. With Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin gone, the team did well in buying Jofra Archer, Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana as like-for-like replacements. Former CSK pacer Tushar Deshpande was also bagged for Rs 6.5 cr, making a valuable addition to the Indian pace department spearheaded by uncapped Sandeep Sharma. Afghan pace senstation Fazalhaq Farooqi is another valuable addition to RR’s bowling attack.
RR decided to give 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi a chance and bought him for Rs 1.2 cr. The youngster made a name for himself in the U-19 game against Australia a couple of months back and has now become the youngest player to star in the IPL.
RR misses in IPL 2025 auction
Rajasthan Royals failed to secure the services of any reputed Indian spinner in IPL 2025 auction. One would have expected the franchise to attempt to buy back either Ashwin or Chahal, but that wasn’t the case. Instead, now the team is dependent on the Sri Lankan duo of Theekshana-Hasaranga to deliver in the spin department.
RR’s retention – which mostly comprised of batters – pretty much summed up their top five in the batting order. However, they needed to rope in some big hitters to fill in the void created by the departure of Jos Buttler and Rovman Povell. Apart from Nitish Rana, the side hardly recruited any big hitter. A few uncapped names surely can’t match the big-hitting boost given by overseas stars.
