The Billboard Music Awards are returning to television and their original home — with a twist. In a multi-distribution deal, the 2024 BBMAs will be telecast Dec. 12 at 8 PM on Fox — where the awards show first aired in 1990 — and Amazon’s Fire TV Channels and will be available on-demand on Paramount+. Actress and comedian Michelle Buteau will host the special, which will be pre-recorded at multiple venues around the world, at least some of them tied to the show’s presenting sponsor, Marriott Bonvoy, including the one performance announced so far, by country star Shaboozey, taped at W Hollywood.
Zach Bryan leads the 2024 BBMA finalists, up for 18 awards with 21 total entries. Taylor Swift, the most decorated female BBMAs artist of all time, is a finalist in 16 categories with 17 total entries. They are followed by Morgan Wallen, last year’s biggest winner, with 15 finalist entries in 13 categories, including 5 for “I Had Some Help” with Post Malone.
In the running for the highest-profile category, Top Artist, are Bryan, Swift, Wallen and first-time finalist Sabrina Carpenter. The full list of finalists in 72 categories — including 3 new ones — Top Hard Rock Album, Top Hard Rock Artists, and Top Hard Rock Song, can be found below.
After two and a half decades on Fox, the BBMAs moved to ABC and then to NBC. Last year’s digital edition was broadcast across Billboard’s social media channels and on the awards show’s official website, which will also carry this year’s show.
The 2024 BBMAs, which measure music consumption from Billboard charts dated October 28, 2023 through October 19, 2024, are produced by Dick Clark Productions. The company was acquired in January 2023 by Penske Media Eldridge, a Penske Media Corp subsidiary and joint venture between Deadline owner PMC and Eldridge.
