Tanveer Sangha, of Indian origin, was included in Australia’s playing XI for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. He made his debut for Australia on August 30.
After winning the toss, Steve Smith chose to bat and revealed two changes to the squad—Sangha’s inclusion and Cooper Connolly’s replacing the injured Matthew Short.
Who is Tanveer Sangha?
Born and brought up in Sydney, Tanveer Sangha was a gifted athlete excelling in multiple sports. While his parents hoped he would pursue a career in volleyball, his passion was always cricket.
Tanveer Sangha is the fourth cricketer of Indian descent to represent Australia, following in the footsteps of Gurinder Sandhu, Stuart Clark, and Bransby Cooper.
Tanveer’s father, Joga Singh, is a cab driver in Sydney who is from a hamlet close to Jalandhar, Punjab. His mother, Upjeet Kaur, is a Sydney-based accountant who is originally from Fiji. He has a sister named Simran as well.
