“We are good friends, so it was a little bit nervous in the beginning,” Barton said after the match. “In the third set, I broke him in the fourth game and then tried to hold my serve. That’s what I accomplished and I am happy.” Barton has been competing in Challenger events across India, believes that India is good fr her.“For me, these are the best conditions. I like the heat and humidity. I feel the rhythm.” His comfort with the environment has undoubtedly helped to his performance, allowing him to thrive under challenging conditions.

Manas Dhamne exit early, India struggle

The day also saw Indian teen sensation Manas Dhamne exit the tournament. Despite a spirited effort, the 17-year-old, Dhamne fell to qualifier Petr Bar Biryukov in a hard-fought 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(3) battle. Indian qualifier Karan Singh also bowed out after a tense match against Jurij Rodionov, losing 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(3). Wild card entrant Ramkumar Ramanathan put up a strong fight but was edged out by Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki 7-6(3), 7-5.
