The reign of Sunrisers Eastern Cape has finally ended in SA20. MI Cape Town has scripted a dominant 76-run victory restricting the Sunrisers side from not winning the league, three consecutive times. Batting first MI Cape Town registered a decent score of 181 runs, in reply, Sunrisers Eastern Cape were bowled out for 105 runs.
Crucial knocks from Connor Esterhuizen (39) and Dewald Brevis (38) were instrumental in helping the MI side put up a good score on the board. And then in the bowling department, Kagiso Rabada bagged a 4-wicket haul to ensure a 76-run win for his side.
Second heartbreak for Kavya Maran
This was the second heartbreak that Sunrisers franchise owner Kavya Maran had to suffer. Last season in the IPL finals, she saw her side going down to Kolkata Knight Riders by a huge margin. And now in the SA20 2025 finals, it was a similar sight.
This has been the 11th trophy for the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in winning T20 titles. On the other hand, Sunrisers Eastern Capes’ dominance in SA20 has finally ended. For the last two editions, the Eastern Cape won back to back titles and was en route in making it a third, however, that was not the case to be.
“First of all the boys put up a great performance. We scratched to 180 and very satisfying to get the job done. Beautiful place to play. The tournament is well followed. It was nice to get on a wicket that had help for the bowlers. Players stood up at the right points this season,” Trent Boult said who won the Player of the Match award.
