The third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set to be highly exciting. Ahead of the start of WPL 2025, Gujarat Giants have announced Ashleigh Gardner as the new captain of the squad. The Australian all-rounder replaces Beth Mooney as the skipper of the squad. The Giants have put their trust in the ace star to help the side win their first WPL trophy.
Over the past 2 years, Gujarat Giants have failed to perform given the squad they have had. But now, the team is showing more aggression after appointing the Aussie. Gardner is arguably one of the best players in recent times and has consistently performed to prove her worth.
Gujarat Giants appoint new captain for WPL 2025
Back in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Gardner was instrumental in her team’s success against India. The next year, i.e., 2023, she won the T20 World Cup Player of the tournament. As for WPL, she has amassed 324 runs and scalped 28 wickets in just 16 games.
As for her international stint for the Women in Yellow, she has 1270 runs and 101 wickets from just 77 T20I games. The stats show she is a deserving player to lead the squad who are desperate to prove their worth in the league.
“We are confident that Ashleigh Gardner will be a fantastic captain for the Gujarat Giants. With her leadership and determination, we are optimistic about winning our first title and achieving great success in the upcoming season,” Gujarat Giants said in a statement.
