Virat Kohli is all set to return to the Ranji Trophy after 12 long years. The former Indian skipper is expected to feature in the Delhi vs Railways match which commences on January 30. Virat Kohli turns down offer to captain Delhi in Ranji?

As per Cricblogger, Virat toed Rishabh Pant’s line and declined to captain Delhi for the clash against Railways. As per the report, Kohli cited the same reason as Pant to not take up captaincy – not being well-versed with the team and the eco-system. Earlier, Pant had also done the same but had assured the DDCA that he would help captain Ayush Badoni in all means possible to ensure a favourable result for the side. However, that was not to be as the side suffered a loss to Saurashtra.

Kohli missed the first game of the second leg against SAU after informing the BCCI that he had a neck sprain. However, he is now fine and has begun preparation for the game against Railways. He was seen practicing in the nets with former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar.  According to news agency PTI, Bangar’s focus was on improving Kohli’s backfoot play.

One of the primary reasons for the King to return to domestic red-ball cricket is to improve his problems with outside off-stump which cost him his wicket on all eight occasions in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Besides, his form over the last four years in Tests has been miserable, seeing his average dip below 50 for the first time in his career.

While the likes of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to fire in the first round match, Shubman Gill was the only Test regular batter who managed to score runs. Meanwhile, Jadeja sizzled with the ball, picking up a ten-wicket haul to decimate Delhi.
