Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had two Indian player on top of their wish list in the IPL 2025 mega auction as they were looking for a replacement for KL Rahul. The franchise decided to release the Karnataka star who served as their skipper since their entry into the league. LSG were keen on securing the services of either Shreyas Iyer or Rishabh Pant and ended up breaking the bank for the latter, buying him for Rs 27 cr.

As per ESPNCricinfo, LSG had both Pant and Iyer on top of their list at the mega auction. Shreyas, who led KKR to their third IPL trophy in IPL 2024, was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction. He was picked up by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 cr and will now captain the side in IPL 2025. Meanwhile, reports have suggested that Pant is all set to be named LSG’s captain ahead of the new season.
