Things are extremely curious for curious for ace Indian Cricketer opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. He is not present in the IND vs ENG T20I squad, however, he is tipped to become a part of the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. Also making things more interesting is that Yashasvi is also tipped to be chosen as a vice-captaincy candidate in the Test format.

Yashasvi Jaiswal like the other players of the team was rested for the IND vs ENG T20I series. But here the dynamics are different. Only Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana are the two players selected for the 5-match T20Is against England who were a part of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The rest of the squad was given a break.

Jaiswal rested or dropped from T20Is vs ENG?

It is to be noted that Yashasvi Jaiswal has not been dropped from the T20I squad. “Pant, Gill and Jaiswal have been rested from this series to allow them to recover fully from the gruelling Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, for the ODIs against England and Champions Trophy in February,” a source told Times of India.

It is to be noted that Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to get his ODI debut in the IND vs ENG ODI series. Also as for the ICC Champions Trophy, he is likely to serve as the backup opener option to Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. But as things stand, it is a perplexing scenario.

If Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to play in the ICC Champions Trophy, he needs to play cricket. Given he will be playing in the 50-over format for the very first time. Playing 3 matches against England and then directly playing in the ICC event can be a bit of a gamble for the youngster.

Should Jaiswal open with Rohit Sharma?

The BCCI Selectors are more inclined in favoring Shubman Gill to open with Rohit Sharma. But, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar is of a different opinion. He believes that it should be Jaiswal who should open with the Hitman. Gavaskar argued that he would opt for the pairing simply due to the right-left-handed combination.

“Who wants to be an Indian selector? For me, the left-handed Yashasvi Jaiswal is because he brings that left-handedness. One of the biggest plusses or minuses, depending on which way you look at it, is the fact that there will be white balls,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.
