Indian women’s cricket team (IND-W) secured the 3-match ODI series against Ireland (IRE-W) after winning the second match by 116 runs at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Sunday. After batting first, India Women put up a massive total of 370/5. Later, Ireland failed to chase this big target scoring only 254/7 after 50 overs.

Mandhana and Rawal set the tone for India

The Indian innings started explosively with a 156-run opening partnership between skipper Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. Mandhana played it like a T20, scoring 73 off 54 balls. She smashed 10 fours and two sixes. On the other end, Rawal contributed a solid 67 off 61 deliveries. This partnership laid the foundation for the big total.

Middle Order fires in unison

Jemimah Rodrigues stole the show with a brilliant century of 102 off 91 balls, anchoring the innings in the middle overs. Harleen Deol chipped in with a crucial 89 runs while Richa Ghosh added 10 runs in the end. Ireland’s bowlers failed to chip in wickets in regular intervals.

Ireland’s brave chase falls short

Ireland failed to chase the 371 run target. They tried to play it cool but failed to keep going with the runrate. Christina Coulter Reilly scored the most runs with a gritty 80 off 113 balls, supported by Laura Delany’s cameo of 37 runs. However, the Indian bowlers kept striking at regular intervals, never allowing Ireland to build threatening partnerships.

Deepti Sharma shines with the Ball

Deepti Sharma led India’s bowling attack with an impressive 3/37 from her 10 overs. Priya Mishra picked up two wickets, including the crucial scalps of Reilly and Ava Canning, while Titas Sadhu and Sayali Satghare chipped in with a wicket each. The disciplined bowling effort ensured that Ireland finished at 254/7 in their 50 overs, falling well short of the target.

What’s next now?

With the series already in their pocket, India will look to complete a clean sweep in the third ODI. Ireland, on the other hand, will aim to regroup and put up a stronger fight in the final game.
