Partido de revisión BGT del BCCI: Gambhir continuará, Rohit Sharma y Virat Kohli en el equipo del Champions Trophy

Se espera que el equipo para el Trofeo de Campeones ICC se anuncie a finales de la próxima semana.

On Saturday (January 11), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) convened with India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar. The meeting took place in Mumbai in the aftermath of Team India’s defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The main objective was to discuss what’s the roadmap going forward, especially with the ICC Champions Trophy coming up.

Gambhir Gambhir & co. staying

According to Sportstar, the BCCI won’t take any hasty decisions. Despite severe criticism of Gambhir and his support staff, no changes in the coaching setup are going to be made. The big topic, the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, was also discussed.

Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli ‘confirmed’ for ICC Champions Trophy

The batting stars have been in woeful form in Test cricket. Calls for their retirement are also being made, but BCCI isn’t mixing formats. Neither Rohit nor Kohli will be penalised for their shortcomings in red-ball cricket by being excluded from Team India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy.

Transition talks from BCCI

There were serious talks about how the transition in Team India should be handled with several players reaching the fag end of their careers. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have long moved on from. Ravichandran Ashwin retired midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Right now, three players remain: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.

“All three members put forward their plans for the future, and it was a discussion on how to plan things in the right direction going forward,” a source told Sportstar.

The senior pros are expected to be named in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, which is expected to be announced by the BCCI in a week’s time. Initially, it was expected that the team for the India vs. England series and the ICC tournament would be out together, but the BCCI hasn’t reached a conclusion when it comes to the Champions Trophy 2025 squad, it seems.
