The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports on Thursday announced the National Sports Awards 2024. As expected, some of the big names who performed exceptionally well in 2024 have deservedly earned recognition and will receive awards from the President of India.
Among them, Manu Bhaker came into the spotlight when she opened India’s medal tally in the Olympics 2024, securing third place in the Women’s Individual 10m Air Pistol event, becoming the first-ever woman shooter to win an Olympic medal for India. Alongside Sarabjot Singh, she also managed to win the bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event. All her hard work is set to be rewarded.
Apart from Bhaker, there are a total of six categories in the National Sports Awards, and all the awardees are set to receive their awards from President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17, 2025. Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2024
As mentioned for the Major Dhyan Chand Award, there are many notable awardees, from shooter Manu Bhaker to Harmanpreet Singh, who led India to a bronze medal in men’s hockey at the 2024 Olympics. Later, in the World Chess Championship, D. Gukesh hoisted the Indian flag by defeating China’s Ding Liren in the FIDE World Championship match in Singapore.

Arjuna Awards for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games 2024
A total of 32 names are set to receive the Arjuna Award for their impressive 2024 performances in their respective sports. Among them are a few notable names, such as Swapnil Kusale, who etched his name in history as the first Indian shooter to clinch a medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the Olympics and secured a bronze medal. He will receive the Arjuna Award along with Sarabjot Singh, who also clinched a bronze medal alongside Manu Bhaker in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event.

In the Arjuna Award Lifetime Category, one of the biggest names set to receive the award is Murlikant Petkar, 80, who won India’s first-ever Paralympic gold medal at the 1972 Heidelberg Games in Germany.
