Shubman Gill ha sido descartado de la prueba inicial en Perth por una lesión en el dedo
The next assignment for the India Cricket Team is to take on Australia in the IND vs AUS 4th Test in Melbourne. As per reports, Shubman Gill’s position is in major doubt in this upcoming Boxing Day Test in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. But this can be a bad decision for the visitors who plan on reaching the third WTC Final in a row.
Shubman Gill‘s place in the team has come under the scanner mainly due to Rohit Sharma. The India Cricket Team captain is all set to move up to his favored opening spot after repeated failures down the order at number 6 in Adelaide and Gabba Tests. With Rohit moving up the order, means KL Rahul will have to move down.
So reports claim that KL Rahul is likely to take the number 3 spot which means Gill is likely to miss out. On the other hand, Gill’s stats are great too. In 3 innings he has managed to score just 60 runs. The top-order batter missed out on the Perth Test with a finger injury.
Why does Shubman Gill need to play in IND vs AUS Tests?
The dynamics for Shubman Gill is quite simple. Heading into the fixture, he is deemed to be the next captain of the Team. He is already the vice-captain in ODIs and T20Is. On the other hand, after Rohit Sharma retires, he will be the vice-captain to Jasprit Bumrah, eventually going on to lead the side in the future.
And in a bid to accommodate that, Virat Kohli has sacrificed his preferred number 3 spot to Gill and slotted at number 4. And now dropping Gill makes no sense. He looked in decent touch in the IND vs AUS Adelaide Test. While he failed with the bat in Gabba, it would be a foolish decision to drop Gill for the Melbourne Test.
KL Rahul has been India’s best batter in the series. With him dropping down from the opening spot too makes no sense given that Rohit Sharma has been in very poor form. But as things stand, Gill needs the backing of the team and management.
The ideal situation for the team management would be to use KL Rahul at number 6 spot. In such a scenario, Rohit gets to open for India. On the other hand, KL Rahul being a versatile batter can slot in easily at number 6. While Shubman Gill retains his number 3 spot as a top order batter.
