Después de un largo descanso, el calendario del Champions Trophy finalmente está disponible y Pakistán es el anfitrión oficial. Pero ¿alguna vez te has preguntado cuándo fue la última vez que se celebró un evento de la CPI en Pakistán?
All late, but finally here! After a long hiatus, the ICC tournament is returning to Pakistan as the ICC Champions Trophy schedule is out, and the PCB is the official host for the tournament. However, a few matches will be held outside Pakistan due to India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan. As a result, the ICC has shifted India’s matches to Dubai, which were initially scheduled in Lahore.
But now, we will see impressive cricket across three major stadiums in Pakistan, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi, where all the teams will meet to fight for this prestigious trophy. There is also a small change, if India qualifies for the finals, their match will be held in Dubai, and if they don’t, Lahore will host the final. But have you ever wondered how long it’s been since the Pakistan Cricket Board hosted an ICC tournament? For many fans, this is going to be interesting.
How long has it been since Pakistan hosted an ICC tournament?
If we look at the win details, it was the 1996 Wills World Cup, which Pakistan co-hosted along with India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan got the rights after winning the 1992 ODI World Cup under Imran Khan. Now, it’s almost 29 years, and they haven’t hosted any major tournament. But this upcoming tournament will be a milestone for them, as after a long time, they are hosting a major event.
Why Pakistan hasn’t hosted an ICC tournament recently
Pakistan has not hosted any ICC tournaments in recent years due to various factors such as security concerns, political instability, and infrastructure challenges.
Is Pakistan hosting Champions Trophy 2025?
As mentioned, yes, Pakistan Cricket Board is going to host this marquee event after a very long time, as they are receiving the hosting rights. CT 2025 will feature 8 teams divided into two groups. India and Pakistan are in the same group along with Bangladesh and New Zealand. A total of 15 matches will be played across 18 days. Also, it is important to note that while Pakistan is the full host, the tournament will be played under the hybrid model. India’s matches will be held in Dubai, which means the UAE will play the role of a neutral venue for India’s matches.
