A la edad de 24 años, Vignesh dijo que Putxur debutó IPS para los indios de Mumbai.
The Sunday double header went exciting as in the electrifying clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at Chepauk, four players made their IPL debut. Among them, there was a 24-year-old sensation from Kerala, Vignesh Puthur made the headlines. The chinaman bowler and son of an auto driver from Malappuram stole the show. Puthur impressed everyone with figures of 3/32 against a formidable CSK lineup. He dismissed some big names like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda.
Puthur’s journey to the Mumbai Indians
Puthur’s incredible journey to the IPL began when the Mumbai Indians noticed his talent during trials. Despite limited exposure to high-level cricket, his accuracy, consistent turn, and composure caught the eyes of MI’s scouting team, leading to a Rs 30 lakh contract from the team.
To prepare him for the grand stage, MI sent Puthur to South Africa as a net bowler for the MI Cape Town unit’s SA20 tournament. There, he refined his skills, practising with cricket stars like Rashid Khan, which boosted his confidence. Before the IPL season, he also played in the DY Patil T20 tournament.
How Rohit, Surya, Tilak gave him confidence?
As reported by TOI, under head coach Mahela Jayawardene, the MI management saw potential in Puthur during practice sessions. Positive feedback from teammates like Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav furthered his case for an early IPL debut. MI bowling coach Paras Mhambrey noted, “Rohit, Surya, Tillak, all these guys batted against him (in the nets)… it wasn’t easy that easy (to pick him). So one of the reasons we felt that we have the confidence of pushing him in this game. And it turned out to be excellent. It was a good decision.”

MI scouting team should take a bow
Mhambrey credited the MI scouting team for their keen eye in discovering Puthur at the Kerala Cricket League. He said, “We have good guys who can spot talent. I think the idea with MI is seeing the potential more than anything else. And when we saw him for one of our trials, we saw the potential in him. Rather than looking into how much cricket he’s played in the past. But it’s purely thought that he has the potential. And you saw that today.”
