For MS Dhoni, age is just a number. At 43 years of age, he is all set to take part in IPL 2025 for the first time as an “uncapped player.” With each passing edition of the tournament since 2019, speculations of the former Indian captain calling it a day in the only format he is active in has garnered momentum. But time and again, Dhoni has returned to action, showing that he has no plans to quit yet. It might be the same this time around as well.

CSK captain says Dhoni has years to go
Speaking at a press conference ahead of CSK vs MI, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad came up with a unique analogy to explain MSD’s future in IPL. He drew a parallel between Dhoni and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, noting that the former was still batting as great as he always was even at the age of 51. What Gaikwad meant was that Thala still had many years to go in IPL and was by no means done yet.
“If you see now even Sachin Tendulkar is batting as great as he is right even now at the age of 50 [51]. Así que creo que voy por muchos años“Dijo Gasque.

Earlier, Dhoni had said that he intends to enjoy whatever time is left in his career. The former Indian skipper revealed that he wishes to relish the game like how he did when he was a school-going child.
“I’ve retired since 2019, so it will be quite some time. What I’ve been doing in the meantime is I just want to enjoy cricket for the last, whatever few years, you know, I will be able to play. I want to enjoy it, how I did as a child when I was in school.
What will Dhoni’s role be for CSK?
Gaikwad further revealed that Dhoni’s role in IPL 2025 would be to try and hit as many sixes as possible. He said that all of the ex-CSK captain’s preparations revolved around that simple goal.
“I think his training is very much limited to whatever he tries to achieve. Or whatever his role would be in the IPL. So, it is pretty much very simple, focused on trying to hit as much as sixes as possible and trying to get the right swing, trying to be in the best shape,” the CSK captain said.
