Virat Kohli is on the cusp of becoming only the third Indian to play 400 T20s, after Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik. But that isn’t the only record that the 36-year-old, former skipper is chasing. During the IPL 2025 opener between KKR and RCB, Kohli will have a chance to get past 1000 runs against KKR. As the record stands currently, in 34 matches he has 962 runs to his name against the opposition, at an average of 38.48 and a strike-rate of 132.
What is impressive is the fact, he has scored a ton and 6 fifties vs Kolkata Knight Riders, and out of those one fifty and a century have come at Eden Gardens. Significantly, he has only one duck against them, and 6 not outs. This also means, KKR will be the fourth team in IPL against who, Kohli scores 1000 runs — after CSK – 1053, DC – 1057, and PBKS – 1030.
Overall, he has 8004 runs to his name in 252 IPL matches, at an average of 38.67. He has scored a record eight tons to go with 55 fifties. His strike-rate is 132 in all these encounters. Meanwhile, out of the current roster of teams, there is only team that gives him a run for his money — LSG. In 5 matches he has scored only 139 runs at an average of 27.80 and at a strike-rate of 120.87.
To further elaborate his performances in the IPL, he loves batting against GT, and has scored 344 runs in 5 matches versus them. He averages a staggering 114 and scores at a rate of 143. Add a century and three fifties there too.
