Subvencor Gill recibirá una advertencia para celebrar temprano en la Copa de Campeones para 2025.
India vice-captain Shubman Gill was given a polite warning by the on-field umpires shortly after he completed a fine catch at long-off to send off Travis Head, the Australia opener in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.
Travis Head had only managed to loft Varun Chakaravarthy off the low edge of his bat and the miscued shot was caught by Gill in the deep but Rohit Sharma’s deputy appeared to throw the ball away in act of celebration a moment too early for the umpire’s liking. Richard Illingworth, one of the officiating umpires was quick to notice that and warn Gill, who took the advice well.
Former England captain Michael Atherton, who was on commentary duty with Matthew Hayden at the time, was quick to remind the former Australian opener of a similar instance from the 1999 World Cup when Herschelle Gibbs dropped Steve Waugh, who famously quipped: “You have just dropped the World Cup.” However, Atherton was confident Gill had taken a clean catch and there was no real parallel with the Gibbs goof-up 26 years ago.
India stormed to the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy 2025 after crushing Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand while Australia defeated England before rain ruined washed out a mouth-watering contest against South Africa and then ruined their final league game against Afghanistan.
India and Australia have been the fiercest rivals in the modern-day game and these two teams are always the top billers in any ICC event. However, Australia have had the better of India in knock-out matches, winning their recent ODI World Cup and World Test Championship finals two years ago.
