Rohan Desai, the secretary of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA), has been unanimously elected as the new joint secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We reported the election of BCCI’s joint secretary previously as well. His election took place during the BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM) at its headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday (March 1). The election was held to fill the vacancy left by Devajit Saikia, who was recently promoted to the role of BCCI secretary after Jay Shah took on a new role as the ICC chairman.

Goa Cricket in spotlight finally

Desai was the sole candidate to file his nomination for the joint secretary position, making his election a mere formality. The event was attended by key BCCI office bearers, including president Roger Binny and vice-president Rajiv Shukla. With this appointment, Goa’s presence in Indian cricket administration has strengthened.

Who is Rohan Desai?

Having served as GCA secretary since 2022, Desai has played an active role in cricket administration. He was also the manager of the Indian men’s team for the four-match T20I series in South Africa last year, which India won 3-1. Following the announcement, the GCA congratulated Desai, stating that his appointment reflects Goa’s rising stature in Indian cricket.
