In a surprising turn at the German Open 2025, former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth made an early exit after losing to fellow Indian shuttler Priyanshu Rajawat. The match, held at the Westenergie Sporthalle in Mülheim an der Ruhr, ended with Srikanth, ranked 45th, losing 21-14, 21-12 to world No. 37 Rajawat in just 35 minutes. This defeat marks Rajawat’s second consecutive victory over Srikanth.

Promising performances in men’s singles

Tharun Mannepalli, having pushed through his qualification matches, performed well to register a win in the clash against Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen. Despite losing the first game, Mannepalli made a comeback to secure a victory with scores of 10-21, 21-19, 21-19 in a match lasting over an hour. Kiran George also emerged victorious after defeating Finland’s Joakim Oldorff 21-18, 19-21, 21-16 to advance further.

Rakshitha Ramraj and Unnati Hooda makes it through

Indian women shuttlers had a mixed bag of results. Rakshitha Ramraj shown amazing game to win in an intense battle against Malaysia’s Kisona Selvaduray. The match was a seesaw affair, but Ramraj held her nerve to win 22-20, 5-21, 25-23. Unnati Hooda who is fresh from her qualifier, progressed to the round of 16 by defeating Wen Yu Zhang of Canada 21-13, 21-17. However, youngster Anmol Kharb fell to Japan’s Riko Gunji, losing in straight games 21-11, 21-14.

Competitive double matches

In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto emerged victorious in an all-Indian face-off, defeating Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Gadde in a match that went the distance, with scores of 21-16, 18-21, 21-17. Men’s doubles duo Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratheek K secured a win against England’s Callum Hemming and Ethan Van Leeuwen, while the women’s pair of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra upset the third-seeded Ukrainian pair Polina Buhrova and Yevheniia Kantemyr with a scoreline of 21-18, 17-21, 21-18.
