During the eighth over of Sri Lanka Masters’ chase, Thirimanne aimed to attack left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan. He struck the ball towards long-on, where Yuvraj was positioned. The 43-year-old all-rounder saw the ball flying over him and leaped to grab it with both hands. Despite falling to the ground, Yuvraj managed to stay inside the boundary, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Thirimanne, who scored 24 runs from 17 balls, was visibly stunned. Yuvraj’s teammates, including captain Sachin Tendulkar, rushed to congratulate him.

Pathan later claimed two more wickets, dismissing Sangakkara and Chaturanga de Silva in consecutive deliveries in his next over. He conceded 39 runs in his four-over spell. Despite half-centuries from Sangakkara and cameos from Gunaratne (37 off 25 balls), Jeevan Mendis (42 off 17 balls), and Isuru Udana (23 off 7 balls), Sri Lanka narrowly lost the match by four runs, finishing at 218/9 in a high-scoring encounter.

Earlier in the match, Yuvraj contributed with the bat, hitting two fours and a couple of sixes. Stuart Binny and Yusuf Pathan’s fifties helped India Masters post 222/4. After Ambati Rayudu and Tendulkar fell cheaply to pacer Suranga Lakmal, Gurkeerat Singh and Binny put together an 87-run partnership for the third wicket, which was eventually broken by Chaturanga. Gurkeerat scored 44 runs off 32 balls, featuring seven fours.

Binny hammered seven sixes and three fours in his 31-ball 68 before being dismissed by left-arm pacer Udana. Yuvraj and Yusuf shared an unbeaten 76-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Yusuf smashed six sixes and three fours in his unbeaten 22-ball 56.
