Despite these restrictions, Virat Kohli found a creative way to enjoy his preferred meals after landing in Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy.

Kohli’s food solution in Champions Trophy

According to a report in the Times of India, Kohli received a food packet shortly after arriving at the training venue in Dubai. Although personal chefs are banned, Kohli managed to get his desired food by speaking to a local team manager. Understanding Kohli’s needs, the manager brought a meal from a popular local restaurant. The report noted, “It had a few boxes of Kohli’s post-session meal. While the others packed their kit bags, Kohli was refuelling and even saved a box for the road.”

What does BCCI’s new rule say?

The BCCI’s guidelines state, “Players can no longer bring personal staff like chefs, security guards, or assistants on tours unless explicitly approved by the BCCI.” Everyone, from players to support staff, must adapt to these new rules. Even India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir, had to make changes, asking his personal assistant to stay at a different hotel. The board’s new rules also prompted veteran players like Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja to return to the domestic circuit and play in the Ranji Trophy, reinforcing the BCCI’s focus on domestic cricket.

India’s prep for Champions Trophy

In Dubai, Team India had their first practice session, with Virat being the first to hit the nets, facing bowlers like Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer were impressed with their aggressive performances, prompting caution from the onlookers. India’s Champions Trophy campaign begins on February 20 against Bangladesh, followed by a much-anticipated match against Pakistan on February 23. All of India’s matches in the tournament are scheduled to be played in Dubai.
