Torrent Group plans to buy majority shares of GT
Reports claim that the IPL is processing the final paperwork before the sale can go through. After the league gives the green light then the sale can go through. It is believed that the sale is expected to be concluded before the start of IPL 2025.
Back in 2021, the CVC Capital Partners group paid INR 5625 crore to buy the franchise. Back then the Torrent group too had participated in the bidding auction but failed to buy a team. It had bid to buy the franchise teams from Ahmedabad (INR 4653 cr) and Lucknow (INR 4356 cr).
Eventually, in 2023, the team tried their best to buy a team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) but failed. But now as things stand, they are en route to become the new majority owners of Gujarat Titans. Coming to the team, it is believed that Shubman Gill will be captaining the side come the tournament in March.
