Johnathan Campbell captained the Zimbabwe cricket team in the one-off Test against Ireland on February 6, Thursday, setting a unique record. Johnathan and his father, Alistair Campbell, became the first father-son duo to lead Zimbabwe. They are the fourth overall father-son pair to captain the national team in Test cricket.
He has replaced Craig Ervine who withdrawn from the one-off Test against Ireland due to a family emergency.
“Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine has withdrawn from the one-off Test against Ireland due to a family emergency. Johnathan Campbell, making his Test debut, will lead the side. A proven leader at the domestic level, Campbell brings exciting energy and has been in brilliant form,” Zimbabwe Cricket said in a statement on social media.

Campbell has impressive form has a captain in domestic cricket. Campbell has demonstrated his cricketing skills in 34 First-Class matches, scoring 1,913 runs at an average of 32.32, with four centuries, and taking 42 wickets at an average of 39.02 as a leg-spinner.
Campbell started his international career with a T20I debut against Bangladesh in May 2024, where he made an impressive contribution, scoring 45 off 24 balls.
Since then, he has scored 123 runs in nine T20Is.
His List A record is also notable, with 1,372 runs in 45 matches, averaging nearly 40.
