Entre los jugadores activos de los estados miembros de pleno derecho, solo Jasline Bemorra y Mitchell Starc es moderadamente moderadamente moderadamente promedio.
Mohammed Shami will return to ODI cricket after 716 days if selected for the India vs. England 1st ODI. The right-pacer hasn’t played the format since that World Cup 2023 Final against Australia in Ahmedabad. He had been at the peak of his powers in that tournament, having taken a 7-wicket haul in the semifinal against New Zealand and getting 24 wickets in 7 matches at 10.70.
Shami looks to create history in India vs England 1st ODI
However, Shami was sidelined after that. From November 20, 2023 to January 27, 2025 he played no matches for the India cricket team. Of course, he returned against England and even got three wickets in the last T20I for the 5-match series. As the attention now moves towards the ODI series, Shami has a chance to create history.
Having played 101 ODIs (100 innings) for Team India, Shami’s wicket tally stands at 195. If he manages to take a 5-wicket haul against England at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, the pacer will become the fastest bowler to take 200 wickets in ODIs.
The record is currently held by Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who got there in 102 innings. Therefore, Shami can break his record with a 5-fer in Nagpur and can tie his record if he gets five wickets in the next two matches.
Fastest to 200 wickets in ODIs
- Mitchell Starc (Australia) – 102 innings
- Saqlain Mushtaq (Pakistan) – 104 innings
- Trent Boult (New Zealand) – 107 innings
- Brett Lee (Australia) – 112 innings
- Allan Donald (South Africa) – 117 innings
Shami to break Agarkar’s record soon
But one thing is guaranteed: Shami will break the Indian record for fastest to 200 wickets in ODIs. The current Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Chairman of Selectors, Ajit Agarkar, holds that record. But given Shami has 32 matches to take 5 wickets, he will most probably break his record by the end of the India vs. England ODI series.
Fastest to 200 wickets in ODIs for India
- Ajit Agakar – 133 matches
- Zaheer Khan – 144 matches
- Anil Kumble – 147 matches
- Javagal Srinath – 147 matches
- Kapil Dev – 166 matches
