Faltan 23 días: aún no hay estadio, ni entradas para el Trofeo de Campeones ICC

A menos de 25 días del ICC Champions Trophy, persiste la incertidumbre sobre las sedes y la venta de entradas para el torneo en Pakistán.

With just 23 days to go for ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan is racing against time to get the venues ready for the tournament. The event marks the first-ever ICC tourney to be hosted by the country in over two decades. While the renovation work at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore is reportedly complete, work is still ongoing at the National Bank stadium in Karachi. With the stadiums not yet ready and ticket sales not announced, uncertainty looms over CT 2025. Matches are scheduled to be held in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi while India will play all their matches in Dubai.

CT 2025: What is the status of stadiums?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on January 24, provided glimpses of the newly-renovated Gaddafi stadium in Lahore. The renovation work, which is in its final stage currently, is expected to be finished in the next ten days. One of the newly-installed digital screen is functional and the bulbs in the floodlights have been replaced with new ones. The stadium is set to be handed over to the PCB in time for the tri-series between Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa.

Meanwhile, renovation at the National Bank stadium in Karachi is still nearing completion. The venue is expected to be handed over to the PCB only on February 5, two weeks before the start of Champions Trophy. It is pertinent to note that the deadline for completion of works at the stadium has already been extended three times. The first phase of the upgrade was initially scheduled for completion by December 15, later extended to December 31, and subsequently January 25.

Can you book Champions Trophy tickets?

There has been no official announcement about the ticket sales for Champions Trophy yet – both for matches in Pakistan and Dubai. On January 16, a Saama TV report had leaked the proposed prices of tickets for the matches to be held in Pakistan. The cost varied from Rs 620 to Rs 7700, with the rates higher for games featuring Pakistan. However, the PCB is yet to make an official announcement and understandably so as the renovation works in the stadiums are yet to be completed.

However, there is also a delay in the announcement of ticket sales for India’s games in Dubai, including the high-octane IND vs PAK match. There is no clarity on how many tickets a fan can purchase or if the tickets will be sold online or via ticket booths. Pre-booking on third party websites has skyrocketed. As per Gulf News, the ticket sales for the matches in Dubai are supposed to be managed by the PCB, with an insider claiming that the board believes it is entitled to keep gate money receipts and hospitality box sales for the games.
