El último partido de Mohammed Shami con el equipo de India fue en la final de la Copa del Mundo ODI 2023 contra Australia.
The anticipation grows for the return of Mohammed Shami to the India Cricket Team. It was expected that the ace pacer would make a return to the IND vs ENG 1st T20I at Eden Gardens. But that didn’t take place. Now, there are major doubts about Shami’s involvement at Chepauk.
Mohammed Shami was not 100% fit to make his return in the previous game and thus India opted to go with Arshdeep Singh, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Hardik Pandya as the pacer trio in the team. The same is likely to be the case in Chennai today. Shami continued to be rusty during India’s practice.
Rusty Shami not 100% fit for Team India return
And it can be well expected that BCCI Medical isn’t too keen on throwing Shami directly into the fire. The primary focus remains on the ICC Champions Trophy. While it is imperative that Shami gets much-needed game time, the team is unwilling to risk any further injury to the ace pacer.
Mohammed Shami would be India’s sole specialist pacer. Mohammed Siraj hasn’t been selected after his repeated poor form while there are huge doubts about Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness. If Bumrah is unable to recover from his back stress, then India will have to be heavily reliant on Shami.
Coming to the IND vs ENG 2nd T20I, Shami looked rusty during India’s practice. The pacer was heavily strapped on both his knees, indicating that he is not 100% fit to make his comeback into International cricket.
