The father of cricketer Sanju Samson, Samson Viswanath, has accused the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) of showing bias and treating his son unfairly. He expressed his disappointment openly, highlighting the issues within the association. Samson’s exclusion from the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) is the main reason for Viswanath’s frustration. Despite missing the training camp, other players were allowed to participate, but Sanju was not included. Viswanath believes the decision to leave Sanju out was made even before the camp started, indicating a bias against him.
On Saturday, India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma announced the team squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, where Sanju Samson didn’t get a place. Instead, despite bad numbers in the ODI format, Rishabh Pant was chosen for having more experience. Samson’s omission from the Vijay Hazare Trophy seemed to be the core problem for his snub from the Champions Trophy squad. Samson has played ODI for India earlier and also registered one century in the format already.
Allegations of internal politics
Viswanath pointed out the internal politics within KCA, suggesting that some people in the association are creating unnecessary problems. He mentioned individuals like Jayesh George and Vinod, stressing that the issues come from smaller people within the organisation. He also shared past incidents where the KCA had treated his elder son unfairly due to an injury.
Call for fair treatment
Viswanath wishes his son a fair opportunity to play cricket. “We are sportsmen, not interested in the business of sports. All I want is for my son to be given a fair chance to play,” he stated, calling for a fair approach from KCA.
The tension has grown with Sanju’s exclusion from the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. Politician Shashi Tharoor also supported the Samson family, criticizing KCA for blocking Sanju’s career, and blaming it on egos within the association.
