Escenario IPL 2025: Deepak Chahar y Trent Boult no son suficientes para los indios de Mumbai si Bumrah resulta herido

Mumbai Indians may have been dealt with a blow even before the start of IPL 2025. Their highest retention & best pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been advised complete bed rest after developing a swelling in his back that puts his participation in ICC Champions Trophy at risk. Without the services of the fiery pacer, MI’s bowling line-up could take a major hit, with the likes of Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult not good enough to compensate Bumrah’s absence.

How will MI’s pace attack look like sans Bumrah in IPL 2025?

Should Bumrah not be fit for IPL 2025, then MI will have just three frontline pacers – Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar and captain Hardik Pandya. With 165 wickets from 133 matches, Boom Boom is indeed one of the best bowlers in the cash-rich league with the ability to terrorize the opposition with his bowling – both in the powerplay and in the death overs. While MI are expected to turn to Boult to deliver in the absence of Bumrah, skipper Pandya is another viable option that the team can deploy at any point of time in the game. Both these pacers have the ability to get wickets, concede less runs and aren’t injury prone.

However, the same can’t be said about Deepak Chahar and Reece Topley. Both pacers are injury-prone and have a history of leaking runs. While there is no doubt that Chahar’s ability to swing the ball can be destructive for the opposition, his performance over the last few years hasn’t been up to the mark. As for Topley, it remains to be seen if the can bowl throughout the tournament without being injured.

Lizaad Williams and Arjun Tendulkar are other pace bowling options that MI have in their arsenal. However, none of the above mentioned four pacers can match the calibre of Bumrah and will never be able to fill in the void created, should the latter miss IPL 2025 due to injury. Besides, Hardik will have a tough job in finding another bowler to complete the four over quota and would be dependent on spinners or other part-time bowlers.
