Según los informes, los seleccionadores no están contentos con el desempeño de Shubman Gill en el puesto número tres, ocupado por Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli’s future in Test cricket may hinge on Shubman Gill’s performance in the near future, a report has suggested. Calls to drop the former gathered momentum after his consecutive failures in 2024, especially in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Now, a report has shed light on the mindset of the selectors over retaining Kohli in the side for the longest format of the game.
Virat Kohli saved by Shubman Gill?
As per Hindustan Times, the selectors are not very impressed with Gill over his performance in the number three position. The swashbuckling batter replaced Kohli in the top-order while the latter was pushed down to number four. The report claims that Gill has not settled down at the position and is nowhere close to how ready Kohli was when Sachin Tendulkar decided to retire. The report added that the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar will factor in this matter before taking a decision for IND vs ENG Test series which is scheduled to take place in June.
“With the five-Test series against England still five months away, the selectors are likely to sit over the matter before forming an opinion. Shubman Gill hasn’t settled into the Kohli role as he was expected to; nowhere close to how ready Kohli was when Sachin Tendulkar hung up his boots. This is something that will be factored in by Agarkar’s selection committee,” the report said.

The selection committee decided to adopt a wait and watch approach to decide the future of Kohli and Rohit in the Test side. The decision was taken after the review meeting that was held on Saturday at the BCCI headquarters, attended by skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and other members of the board.
Both Gill and Kohli failed to fire in the recently concluded IND vs AUS Test series. While the former Indian skipper only managed to score one century throughout the series, the number three batter failed to convert his good starts into decent knocks. Gill managed to score 93 runs in five innings while Kohli only managed 189 runs in nine innings.
