El presidente de la ICC, Jay Shah, asistirá a la SGM del BCCI como ‘invitado especial’: informes

Jay Shah renunció como secretario del BCCI el 31 de noviembre del año pasado y asumió el cargo de presidente de la CCI.

Some riveting new information has arrived. The current International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman, Jay Shah, is set to attend the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Special General Meeting (SGM) on January 12 in Mumbai. The purpose of the meeting between office-bearers is to officially elect Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as the BCCI Secretary and Treasurer.

Jay Shah to attend BCCI SGM

According to the Telegraph India, Jay Shah is likely to attend the BCCI SGM as a ‘special invitee.’ For the unaware, it’s not the first time that an ICC Chair is part of a BCCI meeting. It happened in the past when N. Srinivasan was in power back in 2014-15.

However, as per the ICC rules, a Chairman can’t be officially associated with any other cricket association. So, it means that ‘officially,’ even if Jay Shah does attend the SGM or any BCCI meetings going forward, he won’t have any say in decision-making. As far as the BCCI goes, they have no such rules in their constitution.

Election of BCCI Secretary & Treasurer

Of course, the reason why the BCCI SGM is called is due to Jay Shah. Last year, he resigned as the BCCI Secretary midterm to take over as the ICC Chairman. His departure left BCCI without a secretary, and then President Roger Binny appointed Assam’s Devajit Saikia, who’ll continue to serve until September. Since Ashish Selar is joining the Maharashtra cabinet as a minister, Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association’s Prabhtej Singh Bhatia is replacing him as the new treasurer.

The objective for the BCCI SGM remains clear: the election of office bearers. However, there is no doubt there will be informal talks about how the India cricket team performed at home against New Zealand, away in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and the ICC Champions Trophy.
