La estrella india del bádminton Lakshya Sen perdió ante Chi Yu-jen en el torneo Super 100 de Malasia.
Indian badminton sensation Lakshya Sen didn’t get a good start of the year 2025 and was brought back down to earth at the Malaysia Super 100 tournament. Fresh from his triumph at the Syed Modi International in Lucknow and an impressive third-place finish at the King Cup International, Lakshya was expected to ride the momentum and go far in this tournament. However, his journey was cut short by Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu-jen, who handed him a straight-set defeat (14-21, 7-21). Lakshya’s struggles were largely self-inflicted, with unforced errors proving to be the cause of his defeat.
A promising start turns sour
The match began on an even keel, with both players trading points until they were tied at 6-6. But then, disaster struck. Yu-jen unleashed a stunning cross-court smash that left Lakshya reeling. The Taiwanese player took advantage of the opening and surged ahead, leading 11-8 at the mid-game break. Lakshya’s woes continued after the break, with a string of unforced errors allowing Yu-jen to widen the gap to 13-9. The Indian shuttler’s inconsistency ultimately cost him the first game.
Lakshya fails to recover
The second game was more of the same, with Lakshya getting off to a shaky start. He trailed 1-8 early on and was struggling to close the gap by the mid-game interval when he was down 4-11. Yu-jen sensed victory and seized it. He was racing ahead to a dominant 19-7 score. Lakshya’s netted shot handed Yu-jen 13 match points, and the Taiwanese player sealed the win with a powerful cross-court smash.
Lakshya Sen in India Open
The tension grows for India’s young shuttler, as he is supposed to play the India Open as well. The draws are out and again the player will be facing a Chinese opponent. Lakshya will play against China’s 20th-ranked Hong Yang Weng. It will be challenge for Lakshya Sen to perform good at home after this huge setback in the season opener.
HS Prannoy’s frustrating delay
In another setback for India, HS Prannoy’s match against Canada’s Brian Yang was disrupted by a leaking roof at the Axiata Arena. The unexpected pause added an extra layer of frustration to Prannoy’s tournament debut.
