The top-order batter’s form has been miserable over the last six months, studded with struggles to score runs both at home and in Australia. Lad has claimed that Rohit wasn’t the only batter struggling to score runs, while noting that people always doubted his captaincy only after a loss.

Speaking to IANS, Lad claimed that Rohit was a technically sound cricketer. He pointed out that the Hitman was looking in fine touch in the series against England last year and that he even managed to score runs. Lad suggested Sharma to play one or two domestic matches to rediscover his form, echoing Gautam Gambhir’s directive to all team members following the Border-Gavaskar Trophy loss.

“I think Rohit has only two goals: first, to win the World Test Championship and second, to win the ODI World Cup. If he wanted, he would have retired from all formats (after the T20 World Cup title), but he only retired from T20 cricket. He is not the only cricketer who was struggling to score runs. He should play one or two domestic games to prepare for Test matches,” Lad said.
