The Delhi Capitals‘ (DC) latest IPL signee, Karun Nair, has made headlines by achieving a remarkable world record during the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). The discarded Indian batter now holds the record for the most runs scored between dismissals in List A cricket. He has been making runs season after season and the way back to the international setup seems highly unlikely. Regardless, now representing Vidarbha, Nair has struck incredible form.

A match-winning century in Vijay Hazare Trophy

The historic feat came during Vidarbha’s match against Uttar Pradesh (UP) in Group D at Vizianagaram. Uttar Pradesh posted a formidable total of 307-8, thanks to Sameer Rizvi’s brilliant century (105) and contributions from Madhav Kaushik, Priyam Garg, and Shivam Mavi. In response, Vidarbha found themselves at 63-1 in the 12th over when Karun Nair walked to the crease.

Nair, along with Yash Rathod, put on a massive 228-run partnership for the second wicket. The skipper’s knock of 112 runs not only steered his team to the brink of victory but also placed him in the record books. Vidarbha ultimately won the game comfortably, with 16 balls in hand and Rathod remaining unbeaten on 138.

Most runs in List A cricket without being dismissed ft. Karun Nair

Nair’s consistent performances in the tournament culminated in him surpassing the previous world record held by New Zealand’s James Franklin. By the time he was dismissed, Nair had amassed 542 runs between dismissals, eclipsing Franklin’s 527 runs.

His incredible run of scores in the Vijay Hazare Trophy—100*, 111*, 163*, 44*, and 112*—underscores his unmatched consistency. His last dismissal in List A cricket came over a year ago when Vijaykumar Vyshak dismissed him for five.
