El controvertido despido de Washington Sundar en la quinta prueba de IND y AUS ha alimentado una vez más el escándalo tecnológico de Snicko.
Washington Sundar was extremely unhappy with his dismissal after he fell victim to Snicko technology in IND vs AUS 5th Test. After Yashasvi Jaiswal’s controversial dismissal at the MCG due to the same technology, it was now the all-rounder’s turn at the SCG. Slamming the third umpire’s decision, commentators and former cricketers called out the use of technology, labeling the decision as “crap” and not trustable.
Washington Sundar’s dismissal reignites Snicko row
Sundar was given not out after the ball passed past his glove and into the keeper’s hands off Cummins’ delivery. Alex Carey convinced the Australian skipper to take a review. A replay showed the ball passing close to the gloves. Snicko even showed a spike as the ball passed the glove and the bat. However, what was baffling was that the real-time Snicko picked up spikes even before the ball passed the bat or the glove.
Third umpire Joel Wilson decided to overturn the on-field decision to out, purely based on Snikco, not giving the batter any benefit of doubt. A furious Sundar slowly walked off the pitch with an unbelievable reaction etched on his face.

Commentators and former Indian cricketers were absolutely livid with the decision and called out Snicko. The commentators stated that the snicko reading had picked up some sound which could have been Sundar moving his feet before attempting the shot and that could have been misjuddged by the umpire as spikes picked up when the ball was passing through the gloves. Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa called the decision as crap, noting that despite a spike on Snicko, there was a clear gap between bat, glove and ball.
In the previous game, Yashasvi Jaiswal was adjudged out by the third umpire, thanks to his selective use of technology, In a similar fashion, his dismissal was reviewed after the ball passed close to his glove. While replays showed a deflection of the ball off the glove, snicko showed no spike whatsoever. However, the third umpire decided to trust his naked eyes and adjudged the batter out, sparking controversy.
