The Hitman has been in poor form in the latter half of 2024, prompting speculations of his retirement. In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he has only managed to score 31 runs in five innings as he failed to break free from the shackles of poor form that began in the series against Bangladesh at home. While it was expected that discussions would be held between chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Rohit, a new report has shed more light on the matter.

As per Cricbuzz, discussions between the selectors and Rohit will take place only after IND vs AUS 5th Test in Sydney. The report states that the Hitman will continue to lead the side and be a part of the playing XI unless he voluntarily decides to step aside. Further, those with decision making powers are reportedly hoping that Rohit will “roar back to form”, citing the example of Steve Smith who had a poor start to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but slammed two back-to-back centuries in the last two matches.

“Yes, as a batter as well, a lot of things that I am trying to do are not falling into place. But, mentally, it’s disturbing without a doubt. If you have come here, you want to successfully do what you are supposed to. If those things don’t fall in place, that’s a big disappointment,” Sharma added.
