Australia finished the day with 333 runs lead in the IND vs AUS 4th Test in Melbourne. With just one day left in the match, India will be aiming to chase down this big target. The day saw Jasprit Bumrah’s masterclass with 4 wickets, along with a good 70-run knock from Aussie batter Marnus Labuschgane and a last-wicket partnership of fifty runs from Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland, cruising Australia to 228/9 in the second innings. India’s innings concluded at 369, giving Australia a 105-run lead.

Bumrah brings the breakthrough

As Australia started their second innings, the same old Jasprit Bumrah made an immediate impact by getting the 19-year-old Sam Konstas to leave Australia at 20/1, With Marnus Labuschagne at the crease, the Indian pacers, particularly Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, kept the pressure on. The bowlers hit disciplined lines Khawaja was next to fall, bowled through the gate by Siraj, bringing Steve Smith to the crease.

Despite the Indian bowlers’ relentless attack, the evergreen Marnus Labuschagne managed to reach his fifty from one end. He held the innings together while wickets kept falling at the other end. However, Labuschagne was unable to find any stable partnerships as the Indian bowlers kept chipping away.

Middle order collapse feat Smtih & Head

Steve Smith found it difficult to settle against the disciplined Indian bowling. Siraj ultimately took Smith’s wicket as he edged one to the keeper for a modest score. This put Australia in a tricky spot. The Indian bowlers continued their dominance, with Ravindra Jadeja joining the attack and supporting the pacers. Australia’s middle order struggled to cope with the variety in the Indian bowling attack, leading to wickets at regular intervals. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh fell quickly, courtesy of Bumrah’s guile, adding to India’s advantage.

Missed opportunities for Indian players

India’s bowlers created a lot of opportunities, including a caught and bowled chance by Siraj which went down. Yashashvi Jaiswal dropped three catches. Towards the tail end of Australia’s innings, batters troubled India. Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon played it hard. However, the pressure from Australia slowly increased when Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon slowly had a half-century partnership crossing the target of 300 plus runs.
