Amir, who just announced his international retirement, says that he chuckles when he hears someone compare Kohli to players like Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, or Babar Azam.

Everyone knows that Kohli’s performance in Test cricket has gone down, but for Amir, his dominance across formats for nearly 10 years stands. He understands that Williamson, Root, or Smith may have touched Kohli’s height or even gone beyond in Test cricket but when it comes to white-ball cricket none of them come close to the the former Indian captain.

“Virat Kohli is the greatest player of this generation. I laugh when comparisons are made between him and Babar Azam, Steve Smith, or Joe Root. We cannot compare Virat Kohli to anyone because he has won so many matches for India, which seems impossible for any one player. Not just in one format, but in all three formats, Virat is the greatest batsman of this generation,” Amir told Cricket Predicta.

The left-arm pacer who got Kohli out in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Final and ODI World Cup 2019 added that Kohli’s work ethic separates him from others. Adding on, he heaped praise on the modern batting great for coming strong after that horrid England tour in 2014 and continued to conquer them all from there on.

“Virat Kohli’s work ethic sets him apart from all players. After his bad phase in England in 2014, the way he made a comeback and then consistently performed brilliantly for the next 10 years was no ordinary feat,” Amir added.
