The Big Cricket League 2024 delivered another day of electrifying cricket on Tuesday at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Surat. Fans were treated to power-packed batting displays and thrilling finishes in two exciting matches. Northern Challengers (NC) crushed UP Brij Stars (UPBS) in the first game, while Southern Spartans (SS) staged a clinical performance to beat Mumbai Marines (MM) later in the evening.

Northern Challengers outclass UP Brij Stars

In Match 10, Northern Challengers (NC) flexed their batting might, overpowering UP Brij Stars (UPBS) by a massive margin of 52 runs. Batting first, NC piled up a towering total of 271/2 in 20 overs. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan was unstoppable, smashing 104 off 51 balls, studded with 12 fours and 4 sixes. He was well-supported by Gurkeerat Singh Mann, who contributed a blistering 93 off 38 balls. The pair stitched a colossal 150-run stand, leaving UPBS bowlers helpless.

In response, UPBS struggled to match the required rate despite a valiant knock of 78 from 44 balls by Asghar Afghan. With regular wickets falling, they could only manage 219/8 in 20 overs. NC’s bowlers, led by Faizal A and Dilshan Munaweera, took key wickets to secure a dominant win.

Southern Spartans crush Mumbai Marines in a high scoring thriller

Southern Spartans (SS) delivered a stunning performance to defeat Mumbai Marines (MM) by 52 runs later in the evening. Winning the toss and opting to bat, SS posted a mammoth 232/1 in their 20 overs. Phil Mustard was the star of the show, smashing an unbeaten 140 off 69 balls with 16 fours and 8 sixes. Skipper Suresh Raina supported him brilliantly with an aggressive 62 not out off 30 balls, as the duo added 170 runs for the second wicket. Mumbai’s bowlers struggled, with Jesal Karia being the sole wicket-taker, conceding 53 runs in his four overs.

Chasing 233, MM could only manage 180/9 despite a valiant effort by their captain Jesal Karia, who scored a blistering 56 off 28 balls. Contributions from Manan Sharma (25) and Vineet Singh (28) kept the hopes alive briefly, but SS’s bowlers, especially Milin Yadav (3/24), ensured the target remained out of reach.
