IND vs AUS: The Mitchell Starc-led Australian bowling lineup had Team India on the floor on Day 1 of the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test. They bundled India out for 180, showing how lethal they could be, especially with the pink ball in hand. When it was India’s turn to bowl, the fans expected the same level of destruction. But it wasn’t to be. At stumps, the hosts shrunk the trail under 100 runs, with nine wickets still in hand.

IND vs AUS: What do Indian bowlers need to do on Day 2?

Owing to this, Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara, who is part of the broadcasting panel for this series, had some suggestions for the Rohit Sharma-led side. During a chat with StarSport, Pujara asked the Indian bowlers not to try “too much” to force a wicket. He meant that Bumrah and co. shouldn’t try anything fancy in an attempt to castle an Australian wicket. Instead, they should focus on keeping it tight in order to restrict the flow of runs.

“The bowling was not impresive despite conditions in favour of the bowlers. The first session on Day 2 will be best for batting, and the ball will not do much,” said Pujara, suggesting that it might be a “test” of the patience of the Indian bowlers in Adelaide. “Indian bowlers shouldn’t try too much to take wickets, as it will be important to stop batters from scoring easy runs. If the bowlers bowl a tight line and length, they can capitalise on it in the second and third sessions.”

Advantage: Australia in 2nd BGT Test

The second IND vs AUS BGT Test is currently favouring the hosts after they won all the sessions on Day 1. Starc claimed his maiden fifer against India before the Australian top three weathered the storm against the new ball. While Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Harshit Rana were threatening, they failed to find the killing blow to creep into the Aussie batting lineup.

On Day 2, there is no room for further hiccups. Rohit Sharma needs to be quick with his decision-making, and the fielders should complement the bowling too.
