Para hacer realidad los Juegos Olímpicos de Ahmedabad 2036, la India presentará su candidatura para muchos eventos futuros, incluido el Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo Sub-20 de 2028.
It seems that India, the IOA and the other stakeholders are mighty serious about getting Olympics to Ahmedabad in 2036, and are leaving no stone unturned, in the efforts. Now, India has shown intent to hots the 2028 U-20 World Athletics Championships, to gain some valuable experience in hosting big events, as per a report in Indian Express.
The report further said that the letter of intent was handed over to the World Athletics chief Sebastian Coe, who was in India a few days back. And not just the 2028 U-20 World Athletics Championships, but a recent meeting between the centre and Gujarat government could see many more international events come to India, maybe the CWG again as well.
In the meeting, the weather challenge in Gujarat during the months of July and August was also discussed — the proposed window for the 2036 Olympics. Furthermore, there were recommendations to relax the norms of liquor permits, and reaching out to some of the best hotel chains, to set up new branches in the state.
Having said that, while the host city name is not formal as yet, but there have been occasion when Ahmedabad name has been talked about in the media. Now, there would be efforts put in, to bring many more sporting events to Ahmedabad, that has no real experience in conduction sporting events.
The next tournament on Ahmedabad’s list in the 2026 Fencing World Cup, 2027 Women’s Volley World Championships, 2028 Asian Swimming Championships, World Judo Championships and the World Athletics Relay Championships in 2026. Wishlist also has Youth Olympics, South Asian Games, World Beach Games, and the World Military Games.
“We were told to make a list of marquee events in our sport and indicate the next available slot that India can bid for. This is to test the hosting capabilities as well as get experience in organising major tournaments,” an official said.
