Rohit Sharma jugó un partido de prueba por última vez en diciembre de 2018 y no abrió las entradas.
Almost every expert wants KL Rahul to open in the India vs Australia 2nd Test even if it means that Rohit Sharma has to bat down the order. Rahul had so well in the Perth Test that most wants the Indian captain, who has been the designated opener since 2019 to move down to number 5 or 6. This is despite Rohit being Team India’s highest scorer since 2019. But the consensus among experts and fans is alike: KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal should be the openers for the Pink Ball Test.
Rohit Sharma’s decision
Ravi Shastri, India’s head coach during the last two Border-Gavaskar Trophy wins in Australia believes India’s batting line-up has improved even more with someone as experienced as Rohit Sharma coming into the side. The former coach added that the Indian captain has been to Australia multiple times now and should himself decide where he wants to bat.
“It’s a fantastic boost because there’s no doubting his quality. It’s the right mix of experience and youth in the setup, so whether he opens the batting or goes in the middle order, the choice is his. He’s experienced enough to see where he’s most dangerous when it comes to Australia. Where would Australia not like to see him? That’s the position he should choose. And he’s the leader of the pack, so he can afford to do that,” said on the ICC Review.

Shastri wants KL Rahul opening & Rohit Sharma at 5-6
Asked what he’d want. Shastri felt that Rahul should carry on up top. We all know that Rahul and Jaiswal’s opening stand in the third innings was perhaps the main reason for Team India winning by 295 runs, and therefore, there is no point in tinkering with the winning combination. Of course, Rohit has already batted down the order and found success. He’s even played at number 5-6 in Australia and would find his feet at the spot.
“He’s (Rohit) very experienced. You need that experience in the middle order. I think he (KL) Rahul should carry on (opening) because Rohit has not had much time since he’s come here (Australia). Very quickly he (Rohit) had to play that Prime Minister’s XI game. But I would say carry on with the same setup. He (Rohit) can bat at five or six.”
