While there are no doubts that their best and obvious choice should be Virat Kohli, there was buzz about the lack of captaincy options in the squad following IPL 2025 auction. However, there is a breakout star on the rise who can take over the reins of the team and it is none other than retained Rajat Patidar.

Rajat Patidar as RCB captain in IPL 2025?

Rajat Patidar has been in phenomenal form for Madhya Pradesh in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. With scores of 78, 62, 68, 4 and 36 in his last five innings, the RCB star is in the form of his life. Patidar cements his position as number three batter for the franchise and will play second fiddle to Virat Kohli. Not just as a batter, Patidar has tasted success in leading MP from the front as captain in SMAT. The team has managed to win five out of the six games they have played so far, with the skipper playing an instrumental role in each of their victories.

Virat Kohli was arguably one of the best and long serving captain for RCB. He decided to give up the position in 2022 following which RCB found Faf du Plessis as an able replacement. The team’s auction strategy was very questionable, given that RCB showed no interest in bidding for captaincy options like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant or Shreyas Iyer. If the team has already squared in on reappointing Kohli as captain for IPL 2025, then they should pause and take a step back and consider putting Rajat Patidar in-charge.
