On Friday, the BCCI released the final list of players who would go under the hammer, at the upcoming IPL Auction, and that included a few players from the USA. One of the most prominent names was fast-bowler Ali Khan, who rose to fame at the T20 World Cup 2024, and would be in the running to be picked up by some team for sure.

But there are a few facts about Ali Khan, that might not be known to all. The 33-year-old is in the running to become the first player of Pakistani origin — since Imran Tahir in 2021, to play in the IPL. Surprisingly enough, Attock-born player was part of KKR in 2020, but never got a chance to play for the franchise. He had replaced an injured Harry Gurney midway through the season.

But since then a lot has changed for him. He is an established name in cricketing circles, and is also part of the Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL. In 44 matches there, he has accounted for 51 wickets at an economy rate of 8.62. Overall, in 82 matches, he has played, he has picked as many wickets.

USAs Monank Patel Misses Out

Meanwhile, there was another surprise in the offing. USA skipper Monank Patel, who was responsible for taking the team to Super 8, was not included in the list. In 41 matches in the format, he has scored 688 runs and scored four fifties. The one that did make the cut was, Unmukt Chand, who wasn’t part of USA squad for the World Cup.
